A
BRIEF HISTORY OF THE YOUTH CENTRE
On
24th May 1988, the Akropong Presbyterian Christ Session
gave an approval that Mr. E. H. Boohene should build
a Youth Centre Complex for the church.
A
church harvest, which coincided with Mr. Boohene’s
60th Birthday, took place on 29th August 1987. In
all, Three Million Cedis (¢3,000,000) was realized
towards the construction of a youth center. Preliminary
survey made by QUESS Consult, the supervisors of the
construction, was over Ten Million Cedis.
Realizing
that the amount was inadequate for the construction
of the intended Youth Centre, the church held the
money and used it for the normal church expenditure.
Mr. E. H. Boohene then built the Youth Centre and
partly furnished it at the cost of over Hundred Million
Cedis (¢100,000,000). The architects were Dr.
Michael Kwasi Boohene and Mr. Bekoe Addo.
The
Centre which comprises of: the Warden’s Office,
a Conference and church hall, a library, a kitchen,
a store and now an IT center was commissioned and
dedicated on 26th September, 1993 jointly by the then
Rt. Rev. D. A. Koranteng and Rev. Mate – Kodjo,
at that period, the Moderator and Synod Clerk of the
Presbyterian church of Ghana respectively.
