In
1928, according to Rev. Dr. Edward Reynolds, one Mr.
W. Apeatu an elder of this Church, traveled to Europe.
Whilst there, he was introduced to many church organizations
including the Women’s fellowship.
He
considered it a novelty and therefore studied it’s
running thoroughly. On his return, he spoke loudly on
it. The women at Christ Church decided to form one.
With the support of the Rev. M.A.Adade, Mrs. Jane Awere, and
Mrs. Anno Kwakye, all of blessed memory, brought together
30 women to begin the fellowship. Thus in 1930, the
Fellowship was established with Mrs. Flora Apeatu as
the President, and Mrs. Anno Kwakye as vice President.
Other officers included Mrs. Jane Awere as Treasurer
and Madam Yaago as secretary. Very interestingly Mr.Apeatu
was made the defacto organizing secretary.
Mr.
Apeatu continued to sell the Women’s Fellowship
idea to these friends who were Rev. Ministers. Through
his instrumentality not only did the fellowship at Akropong
grew but branches were opened in several congregations
in the Presbyterian Church.
Women’s
fellowship could be seen all over the country due to
the effort of one man. Our forebears have contributed
their best in making the P.C. G. as it is today. This
should spur us on to do the best we can, now that we
have the strength.
From
1930, the Fellowship had some problems, which slacked
her growth for some years. However on May 9 2004,Christ
Presby Women’s Fellowship celebrated her 70 years
existence despite the initial problems.
