MRS. MERCY BAMPO ADDO,
DEPUTY MINISTER, OFFCE OF THE PRESIDENT.
One
hundred and seventy years ago, Reverend Andreas Riis introduced
Christianity to Akropong Akuapem and established the Presbyterian
Church. Through his own faith and hard work, and the commitment
of his immediate successors, the Presbyterian Church spread
from Akuapem to other parts of the country.
Since then, the Presbyterian Church has made invaluable contribution
to national life especially, through its educational, vocational
training, health-care and agricultural programmes.
As we celebrate the 170th anniversary of the arrival of Rev.
Andreas Riis in Akropong, we, the heirs and beneficiaries
of the Presbyterian tradition, must pause and reflect on our
own lives and roles within the Church. It must be obvious
to us that, we owe it as a duty to contribute to the sustenance
and further growth of this Church, which has offered us so
much.
On
this special occasion, I salute the Clergy, the Presbyters,
all persons in positions of leadership, as well as the various
congregations within the Presbyterian Church. May we all take
inspiration from the exemplary life and work of the late Rev.
Andreas Riis.
